All Filipino One-Day Slow Pitch Softball League Season 5 Hits a Home Run in Dubai

In a display of athleticism and community spirit, the fifth season of the 'All Filipino One-Day Slow Pitch Softball League' took the field by storm last Saturday at the Dubai Little League baseball field in Al Qouz Pond Park. Organized by Pinoy Softbolista, the event has become a hallmark of Filipino sportsmanship and camaraderie in the United Arab Emirates.

Pinoy Softbolista has come a long way since its inception in 2008 when early athletes like Ed Cruz, Aldous Salonga, Mike Maga, and Rey Enad began playing in Dubai. In 2018, the organization won its first championship in a DUPLAYS sponsored tournament and quickly rose to prominence in the local sporting scene. The community has been on a growth trajectory ever since, now boasting over 300 active participants from four different emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.

Saturday's event was an emblem of the organization's community-driven mission. Whether a beginner or a former varsity player in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) or the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), all were welcome. In fact, several athletes who had previously represented the Philippines in international competitions, like Patricia Dimal, Maclyn Samorin, and Mike Gabriel, graced the field.

The day was filled with intense matchups, camaraderie, and, most importantly, a shared love for softball. Players from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah showed up in full force, making this event one of the largest gatherings of Filipino softball enthusiasts in the UAE.

The organization of the league was impeccable, thanks to the dedicated committee members including Ed, Aldous, Grace, Pat, Rose, Ems, Erwin, Maclyn, and Mike. Their hard work ensured that the league was not just competitive, but also memorable for everyone involved.

More Than Just a Game

Beyond the games and competitions, Pinoy Softbolista has its sights set on enriching the community. After this successful Season 5, the organization plans to host a youth softball and baseball clinic, and take part in the Dubai Little Softball and Baseball League.
