Dubai's RTA Implements AED20 Minimum Fare for Taxis on New Year’s Eve

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced an increase in taxi fares for the upcoming New Year’s Eve. Effective from 6 pm on December 31 until 6 am on January 1, the flag down rate for taxis will rise to Dh20, up from the standard Dh12.

This hike in taxi fares will affect both regular-metered taxis and the Hala Taxi e-hailing service. The RTA has implemented this as part of a dynamic pricing strategy to manage the high demand expected during New Year's Eve festivities, especially in areas hosting firework displays.

Additionally, the RTA revealed that such fare adjustments are not exclusive to New Year's Eve. Similar strategies will be employed during other major events, exhibitions, and international conventions, particularly in prominent locations like the World Trade Centre, Expo City, and Global Village.

The RTA’s statement underscored their commitment to improving taxi services, especially during peak demand times. This fare adjustment aims to better accommodate the surge of residents, visitors, and tourists in Dubai for celebrations and events. Usually, taxi fares in Dubai are calculated based on the taxi type, pick-up location, trip duration, and distance traveled, with a typical minimum fare of Dh12 and Dh1.97 per kilometer.
