GloFans High School Cup Launches In Sharjah, Promising A Platform For Young Cricket Talent

The GloFans High School Cup had its historic launch in Sharjah on Sunday, accompanied by a trophy unveiling and award ceremony. The tournament will feature 20 top school teams from around the world, competing over six days in Sharjah and Ajman, with training facilities available in Dubai. Matches will be played daily, including two day-night games under floodlights.

Dav Whatmore, a renowned coach and former English cricketer, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent, stating, “School cricket plays a pivotal role in shaping future stars.” Shahzad Altaf, who played for the UAE in the 1996 World Cup and now runs the Young Talents Cricket Academy (YTCA), conducted the official t-shirt launch. He added, “This event is not just about launching a tournament; it’s about building a legacy. We are thrilled to have such incredible support from cricket legends and look forward to a successful tournament that will inspire young cricketers globally.”

Former Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal highlighted the tournament's role in developing future cricket stars. “This tournament will be a great platform to identify young talent. It will help the budding cricketers understand the commitment and consistency required to play the sport at the highest level,” Ajmal said during a panel discussion with Whatmore.

Sunil Yash Kalra, Sportscaster and founder of GloFans, also shared his vision for the event: “The Global High School Cricket Cup is a natural extension of our mission to inspire and engage the next generation of sports enthusiasts. We look forward to watching these young athletes grow into the cricketing legends of tomorrow.”
