For residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who have always dreamed of visiting Japan, the process of securing a visa just got a lot simpler. Now, you can apply for an eVisa that allows you to explore the country for up to 90 days, all for under Dh100.
Launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on March 27, 2023, the eVisa application is available to foreign nationals residing in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This easy-to-use online system, accessed via the official eVisa platform (www.evisa.mofa.go.jp), streamlines the visa application process, offering a quick and convenient option for aspiring travellers.
For those who have questions or need further assistance, a dedicated Japan Visa Information hotline (971-800-032-1271) has been established for UAE residents. Available 24/7, this hotline ensures all your queries are answered promptly.
To qualify for the eVisa, applicants must have a valid passport, Emirates ID, and UAE residence visa. Once approved, the eVisa is valid for three months from the day after issuance. The application process takes five working days, and the fee is approximately Dh82, although some nationalities are exempt or eligible for a reduced fee.
Eligible countries for the eVisa include Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. However, those from countries that enjoy visa-free travel to Japan won’t need to apply for an eVisa.
When applying, you’ll need to submit several documents, including a copy of your passport, a recent passport photo, your Emirates ID, your itinerary with flight information, your schedule of stay, hotel information, certificate of employment, and a bank statement from the past three months.
The application process itself is simple. After registering on the eVisa platform and creating an account, you’ll fill out basic information, upload required documents, and complete a questionnaire. Then, you’ll confirm your details, submit your application, and await approval. After receiving notification of approval and making any necessary payment, you’ll be able to display your official eVisa document at the departure airport directly from your mobile device.
Notably, as of May 8, 2023, Japan has lifted COVID-19-related entry requirements, meaning travellers no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test.
This new eVisa system represents a significant step forward in simplifying the process of visiting Japan for UAE residents. With an easy application process, a reasonable fee, and the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, it’s a perfect time for UAE residents to plan their dream trip to the Land of the Rising Sun.
