On March 16, 2023, Kabayan Party-list representative Congressman Ron Salo held a dialogue and consultation with the leaders of the OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) community in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The event was held at the Hyatt Place in Al Rigga, Deira, Dubai, and aimed to discuss OFW issues and concerns and the possible solutions to promote and protect the welfare of our OFWs based in UAE.
While in the UAE, Rep. Ron Salo met with the executives of Maids.c, a tadbeer (domestic worker hiring services) and the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Human Resources to discuss ways to enhance employment opportunities and protection for our OFWs in Dubai.
The meeting focused on how to strengthen the ties between the UAE and the Philippines and provide more services to OFWs.
Rep. Salo, a key policymaker in the Philippines, visited the UAE to strengthen relations and discuss OFW welfare with Ambassador and MWO-Dubai. The UAE and the Philippines maintain strong diplomatic and economic ties, with around 650,000 Filipinos considering the UAE as their second home.
The OFW Talk served as a platform for OFWs to raise their concerns and seek solutions to their problems. It was an opportunity for Rep. Salo to listen to their issues and formulate possible solutions for their welfare.
The event highlighted the need for the government to provide support for OFWs in the UAE, where there are many OFWs working as domestic helpers, engineers, and professionals.
Many OFWs experience maltreatment, abuse, and exploitation in their workplaces, which calls for the government to act and provide better protection and support.
Rep. Salo's visit and the OFW Talk reflect the government's efforts to address the welfare of OFWs and strengthen the relationship between the Philippines and the UAE.
The dialogue between the OFWs and policymakers is a step towards creating a better environment for OFWs in the UAE.
