The Department of Health confirmed that the temporary ban imposed on travelers from Indian covers returning Filipinos. The ban takes effect starting April 29 and will end on May 14.
Passengers who are already in transit and those who will arrive in the Philippines before Thursday are exempted.
“Napag-desisyunan that even our fellow Filipinos, hindi muna natin papapasukin for this temporary period,” Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said.
She added that this was imposed to ensure that borders are guarded.
Several countries have already banned travelers from India, including the US and UAE, as the South Asian country sees record-high Covid-19 cases and the death toll for the past couple of days.
