Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Friday that commuters can now bring foldable e-scooters onto the Metro and Tram under specific conditions. The e-scooters must be foldable, seatless, and adhere to size limits of 120cm x 70cm x 40cm, with a maximum weight of 20kg.
After previously banning e-scooters on March 1 for safety reasons, the RTA has reintroduced permission with several guidelines for commuters to follow. These include ensuring that e-scooters are turned off, folded, and properly stored while in stations, on platforms, or onboard trains and trams. Additionally, no e-scooters can be charged at any Metro or Tram premises, and they must be clean, undamaged, and compliant with international battery standards.
The RTA emphasized the importance of not obstructing doors, seats, aisles, or emergency equipment and advised commuters to use wide gates when checking in and out. All protruding parts of the e-scooter, such as handlebars, must be covered or retracted to prevent potential injury or damage.
This updated policy provides a more flexible option for last-mile transport while ensuring the safety of all passengers.
