In a thrilling display of softball prowess, Team Jaguar has been crowned the champions of the Season 5 One-Day League (ODL) Tournament organized by the Pinoy Softbolista community.
Eight dynamic all-Filipino teams came together in a heated competition, with Jaguar Team standing out and claiming victory. Players such as Albert Dita, Aldous Salonga, Alex Grande, and Jennifer Tang, among others, proudly represented the winning team.
The Pinoy Softbolista story traces its origins back to Dubai in 2008, with pioneers like Ed Cruz and Aldous Salonga at the forefront. The community witnessed a significant turning point in 2018, clinching their first championship for Filipinos in the UAE in a DUPLAYS-sponsored tournament.
From an intimate group of 80 players in December 2020, the Softbolista community now boasts over 300 active participants from four emirates—Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Notably, many members have laudable athletic achievements, with some having played in esteemed tournaments such as the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA), and even representing the Philippines in the Baseball World Series.
With the successful wrap of the Season 5 ODL, the community is setting its sights on expansion. Plans are underway to introduce a youth softball and baseball clinic and make a mark in the Dubai Little Softball and Baseball League.
