Authorities in the UAE have arrested 6,000 residency visa violators and initiated their deportation following the conclusion of an extended amnesty period at the end of 2024.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) conducted 270 inspection campaigns across the country in January 2025 under the initiative “Towards a Safer Society” to enforce compliance with residency regulations.

According to Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the ICP, 93 percent of those detained have already been deported. He explained that the UAE government had granted a four-month grace period from September 1 to December 31, 2024, allowing violators to either legalize their status or leave without penalties.

Authorities have since intensified inspections across all emirates, targeting areas where violations are most common. These efforts, conducted in collaboration with various government entities, aim to ensure strict enforcement of entry and residency laws.

Al Khaili stressed that violators, as well as those who assist them, will face legal consequences, including fines and other penalties.
