A travel agency located in the Business area was ordered to shut down for illegally selling Covid-19 PCR test and promoting the service discreetly through WhatsApp.
In UAE, only competent medical facilities licensed by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) are permitted to provide residents with PCR testing services.
The authorities in the emirate were informed after a travel agency’s customer filed a complained, saying he was unhappy at the quality of Covid-19 home inspection service provided.
A travel agent connected with the same agency was also discovered to be using the message-sharing platform WhatsApp business account. The agent sought customers’ appropriate date, personal data including a copy of their passport.
“The inspection teams from the Commercial and Compliance & Consumer Protection Sector monitor the markets and carefully investigate any observations we received from consumers to ensure that commercial establishments adhere to the laws as applicable,” Abdulaziz Al Tannak, Director of the Commercial Control Department at Dubai Economy, told Khaleej Times.
