The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has recently declared that Friday, July 21, 2023, will be an official paid holiday for all private sector employees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to commemorate the Islamic New Year (1445H). This announcement aligns with the Cabinet Resolution on official holidays for both the public and private sectors in the UAE for the year 2023.
Earlier, the Federal Authority of Human Resources in the country had already proclaimed that the same date would be a holiday for public sector employees as well. The MoHRE’s decision aims to ensure parity and equity in granting time off to employees across various sectors.
The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri New Year or Ra’s as-Sanah al-Hijriyah, marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and is an important occasion for Muslims worldwide.
This announcement will bring about a long weekend for residents in the UAE, as the paid holiday falls on a Friday. Private sector employees will have a three-day weekend.
