The UAE is gearing up for a four-day weekend in celebration of its 53rd National Day, now known as Eid Al Etihad. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) announced that employees in the private sector will enjoy paid holidays on December 2 and 3, which fall on Monday and Tuesday. Combined with the usual Saturday-Sunday weekend, this creates an extended break for residents.
The announcement aligns with a Cabinet decision regarding public holidays for 2024. The same dates apply to those working in ministries and federal entities, thanks to the country’s unified holiday policy ensuring equal breaks for public and private sector employees.
The UAE celebrates its National Day on December 2 each year, marking the unification of the Emirates in 1971. This year’s festivities are expected to be vibrant, with fireworks, flags, and patriotic decorations filling streets, malls, beaches, and deserts.
While some residents plan to travel for the last long weekend of the year, others are preparing for festive family gatherings, with some spending lavishly on community-wide celebrations.
