The UAE has launched a new 10-year residency visa, the 'Blue Residency', aimed at environmental advocates who have demonstrated significant contributions to environmental protection and sustainability efforts. According to a report by Khaleej Times, this initiative is open to international company members, association and NGO workers, global award recipients, and distinguished activists and researchers engaged in environmental work.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the link between economic and environmental sustainability. "The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment," he stated during a Cabinet meeting.
Applications for the Blue Residency can be submitted through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Authorities are also empowered to nominate individuals for this long-term residency.
This move builds on the UAE's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, highlighted by the extension of its sustainability drive into 2024, following a year of significant emphasis on green initiatives. The Blue Residency adds to a series of specialized visas introduced by the UAE, including the Golden Visas in 2019 and Green Visas in 2022, aiming to attract skilled and impactful global talent.
