The Filipino Social Club hosted the "Filipinas in Dubai" event on March 31, 2024, at the Khalidia Palace Hotel. The gathering brought together dozens of Filipinas, proudly wearing their traditional Filipiñana dress, to celebrate their culture and achievements in the UAE.
Distinguished guests included Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Alfonso Ver, and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and Northern Emirates, Hon. Marford Angeles. Ambassador Ver praised the accomplishments of Filipinas in the UAE, noting their significant contribution to the workforce.
"This event showcases the success stories of Filipinas in the UAE, with 60% of overseas Filipino workers in the country being women," Ver stated, highlighting a positive shift towards celebrating the achievements of Filipinas.
The event featured speeches from nine successful Filipinas, including Susan Villanueva de Guzman, who spoke about the impact of art on advancing women in society, and Evangeline Monjardin, who shared her experience in the construction industry. Other speakers, such as Florence Bueno, Jomana Mohammed, Marianne Mejia, and Izabella Faye Lebig, shared their inspirational journeys, emphasizing empowerment, resilience, and creativity.
Ambassador Ver also highlighted the decrease in the number of distressed Filipinos in the UAE, with a current total of seven, attributing this to the Philippine government's campaign for equal opportunities for women.
Among the awardees was Michico Lopez Ramos, the founder of Proud Pinoy Media and CEO & Managing Director of Creative Group | Creative Event Management, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the community and her role as a leading Entrepreneur in the United Arab Emirates.
